New Hampshire Magazine cover - October 2021

Every October, New Hampshire Magazine releases their annual Beer Issue. This year’s issue included the article Crafting Beer (In and Outside of the Can) where readers could “…discover local breweries creating works of art that delight both the palate and the eyes.”

The article covers the many ways different breweries incorporate their brand into their labels, and Lithermans Limited Brewery was selected as one of the breweries to share their approach on choosing label names and artwork.

While this section of the article focused primarily on the influence of music behind the Lithermans brand, co-owner Michael Hauptly-Pierce gives credit to my part of the process regarding the art and design of the labels.

Lithermans loves to continuously experiment with different styles and recipes. Since opening in 2016, they have released over 300 different brews in the taproom of their Concord, NH based brewery. Once a brew meets standards, it gets a label. I have designed over 50 labels for Lithermans Limited over the past 5 years.

I’d like to add how grateful I am for the level of trust and artistic freedom Lithermans gives me when creating labels for them. Typically they’ll tell me the details of an upcoming release and the music reference behind the title. Sometimes they present an idea or concept, sometimes we come up with one together, and sometimes they simply say “show us what you come up with.”

It’s always uplifting when my clients show appreciation of my work, especially when they share their appreciation to others. Lithermans has always been very supportive to which I am immensely grateful.

Thank you to Lithermans and to New Hampshire magazine for running this well written article about the artistic side of the craft beer industry.
